Where on the windscreen should I put my dash camera?

I'm minded to fit a dash cam and the consensus is that the optimum position is behind the rearview mirror. However, if I were to do this the cam would be positioned on the shaded/mottled area of the windscreen. Would this affect the camera's ability to focus properly or indeed have a clear view of the road ahead? As always your comments would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I wouldn't put a dash camera there if it's on a shaded area of the windscreen. I often adhere my dash cam in the top left corner of my windscreen and tend to suggest that as it's not going to obstruct your vision or distract you, and it'll get a high vantage point of the road. You can see below (I've added a link) where you should put your camera and why, but if you can't then the top left, as I say, should be fine. Just make sure you look at the footage so you can ensure it's pointed correctly at the road.
