My friend says the engines in Honda scooters are made in Thailand, is this true?

My friend tells me that the engine in the Honda SH300i scooter is the same as in many other scooters and is made in Taiwan or Korea. It's a general product and not original from Honda, meaning it doesn't have Honda's normal high standard. Is this true?

I'm afraid I honestly don't know where that exact engine is made, though they do have various manufacturing facilities in countries like Thailand, Japan, China etc. However, with that said, a lot of the time when people speak of Honda reliability — they aren't just referring to the fact that Honda parts are made to a high standard. The reliability of Hondas is also based on the fact that Honda has a large network of dealers, meaning you can get your bike looked at and fixed easier than other bike brands because there are more garages and more parts available on the market than for, say, a Lexmoto motorbike.

Some people talk about certain brands or models of cars as if numerous models don't share parts anyway. For example, the Mercedes-Benz A180d has a 1.5-litre dCi Renault diesel engine, which is also used by Dacia and Nissan. Similarly, the Toyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ share obvious designs, as well as a Subaru-designed engine. In the automotive world, lots of companies share designs, platforms and mechanics due to manufacturing cars together or being owned by the same parent company. If you want more info on the engine, I would speak directly to your local Honda dealer. And, after all is said and done, you should be able to get any repairs done for two years under a Honda warranty.
