Bean bag chair designed for children from 3 to 8 years

Priced from £90

Available in various colours and different materials

What is it?

We've already reviewed the Ultra Lux gaming chair from bean bag experts Big Bertha Original, who have an almost endless range of different bean bag designs from sofas to outdoor loungers. Now we're turning to something a little smaller, a children's armchair from Big Bertha's Lounge Pug brand. Designed for 3 to 8 year olds there are smaller versions for toddlers and bigger ones for 6 to 14 year olds.

The Children's Armchair bean bag is available in various colours including the pink we're testing here and there are two finishes, either cord or the pom pom we've gone for. It measures 50cm by 50cm and comes with SupremeX polystyrene filling and a child safety zip to stop little hands getting to the filling. It also has a stain resistant finish and is fire retardant plus there's a two year guarantee.

Priced from £89.90, you can buy it directly from the Big Bertha website or you can find it cheaper on Amazon.

What's it like?

Our Lounge Pug armchair arrived pre-filled and ready to go, ao all we had to do was take it our of the box, give it a shake and it was ready to be used. The material is lovely and soft, but is still durable while the grippy black base means it won't slide around, handy on our wooden floor.

It certainly feels like a quality product, which helps justify the £90 price. It's well stitched together and neatly finished, with plenty of filling mean it's supportive yet comfortable. This also helps it keep its shape. Tested by four year-old Reuben, he loves that he 'has a big boy chair' and how comfortable it is, plus the fact he can easily move it round to get it exactly where he wants it.

I'm happy that it's easy to vacuum clean and we've been able to wipe any stains (mainly chocolate related) easily. Yet it's still really easy to move when we need floorspace.

If your beanbag starts looking a little flat over time, or indeed you lose some of the filling, replacement bags of the same filling are also available from the Big Bertha website. There's also a range of matching accessories such as throws and cushions available.

Should I buy one?

If you have a little one (or not so little one at this age perhaps) who wants their own seat then this is perfect. As a parent you'll appreciate the fact that it's light, easy to move around and doesn't take up much space. You children will love the fact it's comfy, cosy and they can really snuggle down into it. Plus of course, they have their own chair. Our chief tester, Reuben loves it (as you can see below) and much prefers it to sitting on the sofa while his older brother and sister have already requested their own ones.

With Christmas on the horizon and a house full of extended family, Reuben has no worries about not finding somewhere to sit. We expect we'll be buying him the next size up in a couple of years as it's proved such a hit.
